I am a proud Washingtonian, born and raised in Renton. In 2000, my wife of 30 years and I moved to Puyallup, where we’ve raised our three bright, athletic, and talented daughters—all graduates of Sumner High School who have gone on to pursue advanced degrees.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University, along with teaching and director credentials from Central Washington University. For 30 years, I had the honor of serving as a public high school educator, teaching Business and Marketing and mentoring students as a DECA advisor. Helping students grow, discover their passions, and plan for their futures was truly a privilege. Although I wrapped up my teaching career in June 2024, I continue to support students through my work as a Sumner Rotarian, where I co-chair the Dictionary Project—an initiative that provides every third grader in the Sumner, Bonney Lake, and Dieringer School Districts with their own dictionary.
In addition, I proudly serve on the Washington DECA Board, remain active in the Sumner Rotary, and am a SoundView Retiree with the Pierce County Central Labor Council.
A few fun facts about me: I studied the Japanese language and culture in Japan for three and a half years. During that time, I worked as the chief planner for Kanematsu Sogososha, a major Japanese trading company, where I served as a liaison between Japanese management and international staff. From 1986 to 1987, I also had the incredible opportunity to tour the world with the internationally acclaimed musical group Up With People, promoting peace and cross-cultural understanding through music and performance.
